Questions and Answers
Can we try class out first?
Yes, you can, you get a free week trial to see if Georgia Kissaki Kai is right for you.
When can we start?
Today! You can get in touch with us by email, or phone through our contact page. You can also stop by
our school and sit in on a couple of classes to see what we are all about.
How many classes per week can I attend?
All students may attend as many classes as are available for their rank and age. We have pay options to
train from 1 to 3 times a week. We suggested that students attend at least twice per week. Our 1 class a
week option works great for children that play other sports.
Family Discounts?
Georgia Kissaki Kai Karate does its best to keep the cost low, especially for families. Our low rates are
discounted even further for more than one student from the same family. Please contact us for more
information on current rates.
Will Karate make my child more violent?
On the contrary! Children who have a positive outlet for their energy, and who participate in activities that
boost their confidence and self esteem have proven to be less violent and more easily able to resolve
conflict without fighting.
If I've trained in another martial art, do I have to start over as a white belt?
No... Some skills will definitely be transferable and other skills will have to be picked up here. When you
come in to the dojo we can evaluate you over the course of a few months and rank you according to where
you fit into our curriculum.
Will Karate help a child with ADHD ?
Yes... Some children and adults suffer from concentration difficulties. Many times these difficulties are
related to emotional blocks and depression. Many Doctors and Psychologists believe the focus,
concentration and discipline required by martial arts can help alleviate these problems.
Will I get hurt in Karate?
While it is impossible to prevent all accidents in any activity, our training methods have been thoroughly
researched and have the effect of making one less prone to injury. In addition, because respect,
responsibility and discipline permeate the climate of our school, our instructors and students are very
safety conscious.
Do you have tournaments?
Kissaki Kai Karate is not a tournament style art, although there is some tournament participation available
to students who are interested. We do try to attend any area or regional traditional point fighting Karate
tournament. We also have many in house grappling and karate tournaments. Along with mixs martial arts
competition.
Do I have to compete in tournaments?
Tournament participation is NOT a requirement at Georgia Kissaki Kai.
How old is to old to take Karate?
Let's face it, as we grow older, we become more of a target to those who, lets say - have an inclination to
prey on apparently weaker targets. It makes total sense to learn some effective self defense through a
regular program and get help staying fit at the same time. We appreciate the fact that as your body grows
older there are more physical challenges. To keep working the body, to exercise sensibly and to
participate in functional exercise will help your body and your mind. Our Program teaches a very simple
and very effective system of Self Defense. All of the techniques consist of gross motor skills so can be
carried out by virtually anyone. We basically encourage older people to train in all the regular techniques
however, when it comes to being thrown, taken down to the ground, held in joint locks etc we have younger
students who actually enjoy that side of training.
How long will it take to be a Black Belt?
The length of time it takes to earn a black belt in karate depends on the dedication. At Georgia Kissaki Kai
we have general guidelines that are followed. Factors such as the age of the student and frequency of
training are also taken into consideration. An adult student of karate who attends class two times per week
on a regular basis can expect to earn a black belt in about five or six years. Children studying karate can
earn a black belt in approximately the same amount of time as an adult. This is about five to six years of
continuous training. However, children under the age of 16 years old are awarded a "junior black belt."
rank.
A young boy traveled across the country to the dojo of a famous Sensei teaching karate. When he arrived
at the Dojo he was greeted by the Sensei "What do you wish from me?"
"I wish to be your student and become the finest martial artist in the land" said the boy. " How long must I
study?"
"Ten years at least". The Sensei replied.
"Ten years is a long time". The boy said.
"What if I study twice as hard as all the other students?"
"Twenty years", replied the Sensei.
"Twenty years! But what if I practice day and night with all my effort?"
"Thirty years", the Sensei replied.
"Thirty years! Why is it that each time I say I will practice harder, you say it will take longer"?
"The answer is clear," said the Sensei. "When one eye is fixed on only the final destination, there is only
one eye left with which to find the way".
Study to learn, its not about the time it takes!
